Coaching and Other Special Projects

Coaching

Teaming up with those who want professional help to develop a finished manuscript for print or digital publication is a special joy. Whether your first book or your tenth, or just a rough idea of bringing a personal dream to fruition, sometimes long-form projects can bog down. As a published author myself, I know the siren call of procrastination, the frustration of sitting in front of a screen with only a blinking cursor awaiting words jammed in the pipeline of your brain. It is not unusual for a manuscript to stutter to a stop in the middle and freeze. These are the times when a professional writing coach can encourage and inspire you with well-timed assignments, insights, and suggestions to keep you pedaling toward the finish line. My encouragement and guidance will help you enliven your writing, sharpen your transitions from chapter to chapter, and point you toward important resource materials to add depth and texture to your project.

An Important Family Memoir

“I wanted to write a book about my father’s years as a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot in World War II. It required consolidating and drawing upon thousands of letters, notes, and photographs. To begin with, Rosemary helped me set up a system for organizing everything. I then began sending her a chapter a week for review. The weekly goals kept me focused and her insightful comments encouraged me to dig deeper and include the emotional connections that make the story flow. I like to digress and she kept me moving forward. It was a goal of many years and I am thrilled that it is now in print!”

 Book Proposals

If you are a nonfiction writer approaching agents and editors about your book concept, a strong, perfectly polished query letter and book proposal will make you stand out. Most writers underestimate the comprehensiveness necessary in a book proposal, which can run fifty or more pages when done thoroughly. Going through that process takes time and attention to detail and, when complete, makes you fully prepared to address the questions that will come up on your journey from book idea to publication. It will send a powerful message that you understand the marketplace, your readership, and your role in making your book a success.

My personalized workshop provides you with the essential elements you need, coaching you each step of the way with tips, editing, and important resources. I want us to have fun and for you to feel supported along the way–

A Top Manhattan Literary agent recently shared with me his views about strong book proposals:

“A thoughtfully prepared nonfiction book proposal can really make an author stand out: it demonstrates that you are a professional, that you understand the marketplace, and delineates your own effectiveness at making your book a success.”
